We discovered that by charting an individual's activity levels throughout the day, we could identify opporunities for embedding activity into an existing routine. In this "as is" chart, the individual spends long periods of time during the work day being sedentary, as indicated by the large purple dashed arcs.

In a conceptual models class at CMU, we were tasked with completing a design research exercise and using conceptual models to help turn our findings into design implications. Our group chose to research busy individuals to find opportunities for embedding exercise and physical activity into their daily lives. We conducted an online survey and in-person interviews, all along creating visualizations to help us understand our findings.

We mapped out individuals' "as is" daily routines, which then allowed us to demonstrate what their routines "could be" with slight behavior changes geared towards wellness. At the conclusion of our research, along with a list of design implications, we discovered that making people conscious of their activity levels (in this case by modeling their daily routines) can spur behavior change leading to a healthier lifestyle.
